UPDF has activated its reserve force- The Crime Preventers to curb crime as the country prepares to go into Presidential election in January next year.
According to the Commander of the Reserve Forces Gen. Charles Otema, this forces has been installed across the country ahead of the 2021 general election with the intent to protect and preserve peace in communities.
Gen Otema said Crime Preventers “are ready to crush anyone who tries to destabilize peace.”
Previously Crime Preventers were under the police until 2018 when President Museveni fired Gen Kale Kayihura- the architecture of this ‘much feared’ outfit.
President Museveni then announced that Crime Preventers would be incorporated within the UPDF as a reserve unit and could be recalled at the time of need.
This website understands that UPDF has been training the Crime Preventers in Nakasongola ahead of 2021 elections.
Their activation comes amid highly anticipated chaos which is likely to be caused by opposition radical leaders before and after the elections.
Several government security agencies have consistently said that intelligence points to organized crime that is likely to erupt in the country to destabilize the electoral process.
President Museveni on many occasions warned of crushing the perpetrators and their backers who want to disrupt peace of Ugandans.
