UPDF Generals are Powerless, says Muntu

Fiery Former army commander Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu has scoffed at UPDF generals who have consistently said they would not hand over power even when their Commander in Chief (CiC) Gen. Yoweri Museveni is defeated in an election.

A number of soldiers have publicly said they can’t salute a certain caliber of opposition leaders in case they win a Presidential election.

For example, Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, the Minister of East African Affairs on Tuesday wondered how he would certainly honour musician Robert Kyagulanyi as his President.

Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine is vying against Museveni for President.

“I, Kahinda Otafiire, how on earth would I salute Bobi Wine? I got a gun and went to Luweero and then I salute Kyagulanyi? If he wants to lead let him also go to the bush,” Kahinda said as he welcomed President Museveni in Mitooma District.

A few months ago, the commander of Masaka Mechanised Brigade, Brig Deus Sande said the army would not handle over power.

His statement sparked off anger among the former combatants who are now seeking to remove Museveni’s government.

On Thursday while campaigning in Bukedea Sub-region, the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) candidate Gen. Muntu said those UPDF officers threatening that they will not handle over power actually don’t have it.

“I hear some Generals saying that they cannot give power to another leader. That is propaganda,” he said, attracting wild cheers from the excited crowds.

He added, “they don’t have the power, the power is with you the people.”

Muntu requested the Bukedea voters to overwhelmingly vote Museveni out of power and see if he will not hand over.

“Make a decision today to overwhelmingly vote Gen.Museveni out of power on 14th Jan 2021″

this is not the first time Mugisha Muntu has attacked the institution that he led for nine years as commander.

In 2013, Muntu warned the army generals not to be like a proverbial fly that followed a dead body to the grave and eventually was buried.

In his veiled statement, Muntu cautioned the senior soldiers not to fall with their master, Gen. Museveni.
