Cash crisis as Finance Ministry bans Christmas parties for all Government bodies
The Ministry of Finance has directed all government entities to suspend Christmas and end of year parties because the economy is facing expenditure pressures.
Patrick Ocailap writing to all accounting officers on behalf of the Secretary to the Treasurer said government is undertaking efficiency measures which entail the need to adjust spending during this festive season.
“As you are aware, the economy is faced with expenditure pressures and as such the Government is undertaking efficiency measures which entail the need to adjust spending during this festive season in all Ministries, Agencies and Local Governments (MALGs),” Ocailap said.
“Consequently, this is to direct you not to organize Christmas and end of year parties, as well as not engage in printing of Christmas Cards, Diaries, Calendars, buying of Christmas gifts and humpers and anything else related to such expenditures.”
Ocailap said the entities must utilize electronic platforms to deliver messages.
“The purpose of this Letter therefore, is to communicate as above and urge you to utilise electronic options to deliver the relevant messages,” he said.
This communication comes barely a month when government suspended “unnecessary expenditure” and directed that money must be channeled to Electoral Commission and Ministry of Health.
