Gen. Muntu’s Kamwenge Rally blocked by Police

Muntu has been disallowed to have his rally in Kamwenge

Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu has been stopped from addressing his supporters in Kamwenge District, Western Uganda in the ongoing Presidential campaigns.

The former army commander is the President of Alliance for National Transformation (ANT).

Since the Presidential campaigns began, Muntu has been the only opposition candidate whose campaigns had not been clamped by the regime.

Muntu said that, his radio program he had fully paid for in Kamwenge was also cancelled by the management due to pressure from the government.

After police blocked his meeting, Muntu said he would talk to the people of Kamwenge some time in the future.

“Commander Asiimwe DPC Kamwenge under ridiculous orders has frustrated our efforts to talk to the people who were eagerly waiting to hear our message,” Muntu said.

“The Radio station that we had made arrangements with has also been threatened not to host us. We shall definitely talk to the people of Kamwenge at one time.”

A few days ago, the IGP issued orders saying political contenders- be it- Presidential candidates will not be spared should they violate Electoral Commission guidelines.

EC advised the candidates to meet their 200 supporters in gazetted places and directed that mass rallies must be avoided.

Last week, violent protests erupted in Kampala and neighbouring towns when Police arrested opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine.

More than 30 people died in the protests, scores injured and other arrested.
