In the wake of Wednesday’s unrest that rocked numerous parts of the country as a result of Robert Kyagulanyi’s arrest, a section of his radical supporters have erected roadblocks along Masaka- Mbarara highway and began soliciting money to allow passenger cars to access the city.

Some of the Drivers of these vehicles have been forced to seek sanctuary at different police stations on Masaka Road as security restores sanity.

Many cars have been vandalized by angry opposition supporters who continue to protest the detention of Mr Kyagulanyi a Presidential Candidate sponsored by National Unity Platform NUP).

Earlier on Wednesday morning, Police commanded by Frank Mwesigwa peacefully arrested Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine who was slated to address a rally in Luuka- Eastern Uganda, a move which violates Electoral Commission guidelines considering that there are increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases and deaths.

Bobi Wine, had from the start of Presidential campaigns indicated that he will not adhere to Electoral Commission (EC) guidelines.

EC chairman Justice Simon Byabakama, directed all Presidential candidates to desist from addressing rallies, but rather conduct meetings of 70- 200 people which he termed hybrid campaigns.

Since the arrest of Kyagulanyi, police has been involved in running battles with his fans in Kampala and its surrounding towns, Masaka, Jinja, Iganga and Luuka.

Cars have been vandalised in Kampala.

The angry supporters erected barricades in roads, lit bonfires and pelted stones to police in process of retaliation.

Security fired teargas, and volleys of live bullets to disperse the crowds.

However, in some parts of Kampala like in Wandegeya, Kireka, Kasubi and Kyengera, hard core hooligans mounted roadblocks stopping movement of cars.

To be allowed to leave the roadblock, hooligans asked for shs 20000 saying it is bail money for Bobi Wine who will be taken to Court on Thursday.

Bobi Wine is detained at dreaded Nalufenya detention center.
