Mbidde: I agreed with Mao that I won’t Support Him

Mbidde backed Bobi Wine.

In what has been widely seen as betrayal Democratic Party vice president has come under fire for declaring his loyalty to a rival Presidential Candidate- Robert Kyagulanyi.

Mbidde has come out to defend his position saying that he reached an understanding with DP president general Norbert Mao to support a different Presidential Candidate.

Mr. Mao is among the contenders of the highest office in the land.

He entered the contest shortly after a huge clique of the party legislators and long time loyalists defected to National Unity Platform, a political organization that has existed for months.

Among the DP diehards that stayed behind are Fred Mukasa Mbidde who is new Nyendo-Mukungwe parliamentary seat and also serving his last term in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Mr Mbidde believes Mr Kyagulanyi is the only presidential candidate in the race who can end President Museveni’s 35-year rule.

Mbidde told this website that he opted to back Kyagulanyi after discussing with Mao who gave him a go-ahead.

He clarified that supporting a rival for Presidency doesn’t mean he has left the party.

Political pundits say that Mbidde could be have been compelled to make a move to cling on Kyagulanyi’s bid to earn popularity since the presidential candidate is widely supported in Central Uganda particularly Masaka.

Kyagulanyi is scheduled to campaign in Masaka on Thursday, where he is anticipated to attract a sea of people on his rallies.
