Deceased MP Watongola’s family Denies Mulago’s COVID postmortem, Insist she was Poisoned

MP Watongola died on Saturday at Mulago Hospital.

Kamuli Municipality MP Rehema Tiwuwe Watongola who passed away last Saturday at Mulago Referral Hospital, didn’t succumb to Coronavirus as stated in the postmortem report, her family has said.

The legislator died a week after her brother’s demise Sam Mubailiwo lost the battle to COVID-19.

She would later develop difficulties and rushed to Mulago Hospital until she breathed her last.

However, Rehema’s husband Hajji Badru Watongola said her wife’s death has been used as propaganda and highly politicized by government

“We know and can’t believe up to now that Hajjat is gone, but we are disturbed by the negative publicity, speculation and stigmatization on social media,” Watongola told mourners at home.

Other family members decried foul play in her death.

They said Watongola had indicated that she had been warned of how some people were planning to poison her.

However, the family members couldn’t divulge details.

But Speaker Rebecca Kadaga who also hails from Kamuli maintained that the fellow legislator succumbed to COVID.

A statement from Kadaga’s office dismissed statements from Watongola’s family as irresponsible.

“Quoting an irate source, the outlet purports that the demise of Kamuli municipality MP Rehema Watongola was not due to natural causes. This unfortunate assertion is despite confirmation from the health ministry that the lawmaker died after a Covid-19 attack. Just in the previous week, deceased had buried her brother- who also succumbed to the said covid-19 attack. In light of the above, it is irresponsible for of anyone, let alone a media outlet to disseminate contrary information and blame the reported demise on someone else,” reads the statement.
