President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni insists that he will not hold participate in mass campaigns across the country while canvassing support for 2021 Presidential elections.

There has been a narrative that the NRM candidate is likely to succumb to pressure and address mass gatherings to match his opponents.

The President said he will not, adding that instead those inviting people to their rallies are not leaders but rather enemies who want to kills Ugandans.

“I can’t call large gathering to come to my rallies. And you call me a leader? No I am an enemy?” He told the people of Arua.

He further posted on his social media pages that, “in these campaigns, I have completely refused to “kill” my people by calling them for rallies.”

There is sporadic increase in the numbers of COVID-19 cases and deaths in the country.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has previously asked political candidates to desist from violating campaign guidelines and engage in mass gatherings while campaigning.

Only President Museveni has complied while others have defied resulting into an increase in cases

Health experts warn that the country is likely to degenerate into a total crisis in this political season should political candidates continue to defy the health guidelines.
