Dr Yasin Kiyimba, the Rakai hospital medical director has died from Mulago Referral Hospital after spending two weeks in the Intensive Care Unit.
Reports from Mulago indicate Dr Kiyimba succumbed to Coronavirus.
He becomes the second prominent government official to lose the battle to this deadly pandemic in a week, after deputy government spokesperson Shaban Bantariza died from the same hospital.
Like Kiyimba, Bantariza was also admitted in the ICU where he breathed his last.
Dr Kiyimba’s burial arrangements are underway.
The President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni has over time appealed to the citizens to observer SoPs introduced by the Ministry of Health.
Many Ugandans have become reluctant to adhere to the health guidelines after government eased on majority of the lockdown restrictions. Ever since there was a phased lifting of lockdown, there was been a huge increase in the COVID cases and death.
