Equal Opportunities boss Ntambi granted shs3.5M cash Bail

The Anti corruption magistrate court has released on bail Sylvia Muhebwa Ntambi the Chairperson of Equal Opportunity Commission who is facing 25 charges of corruption, abuse of office, causing financial loss, embezzlement and conspiracy to defraud government.

Ntambi has been released on a cash bail of 3.5 million shillings, and each of her three sureties bonded at a non cash of 40 million shillings.

Ntambi has been ordered to deposit her passport and land title with court.

Court presided over by the grade one magistrate Moses Nabende heard Sylvia Ntambi’s bail via video conferencing system at the high court in Kampala to Kigo prison where the accused was remanded.

On releasing her, the magistrate observed that the state did not indicate fear that the accused will interfere with inquiries into the case once released.

Ntambi will report back to court on 24th November for mention of her case.

One of her sureties Sylvia Namubiru who is the executive Director of LASPNET noted that the terms we’re stringent given the fact that Ntambi always travels abroad for official duties.

Prosecution contends that on 19th November 2019 while being employed as chairperson of Equal Opportunity Commission with other employees of the commision they conspired to defraud Government.

That the said money was to undertake an audit exercise on Rural Electrification plan but the exercise is said not to have taken place

Its further alleged that that being employed at the same office with other co accused conspired to defraud nine Million four hundred eighty thousand shillings from Government
