The FDC Presidential flagbearer Patrick Amuriat Oboi alias POA maintains he will defy the Electoral Commission guidelines on November 3 as he goes for nomination at Kyambogo grounds.
Amuriat says the FDC supporters across Kampala will escort him in a mega procession despite EC’s earlier communication that each aspirant is required to present only 10 supporters at the nomination venue.
The Electoral Commission Chairman Simon Byabakama cautioned all aspirants intending to cause chaos on that day, that police has been given full authority to hand them. Byabakama told the aspirants that Uganda is in delicate situation of COVID-19 and therefore the aspirants together with all the people of Uganda must observe health guidelines.
Appearing on NBSTV on Wednesday evening, Mr Amuriat said, the constitution grants the people of Uganda freedom of expression and speech.
“Therefore my simple advice to police and Electoral Commission is desist from violating the constitution of Uganda,” he said.
He added: “We will paint Kampala blue. From Najjanankumbi we will drive up to Mukwano roundabout, then to Jinja Road and finally Kyambogo where I will be nominated. Then after nomination we will have a rally.”
The Electoral Commission set November 2 and 3 as the official days when all Presidential aspirants will be nominated as candidates to contest for President.
So far 10 aspirants including President Museveni, Patrick Amuriat, Mugisha Muntu (ANT) Robert Kyagulanyi (NUP), Henry Tumukunde (Independent) and others have so far been cleared and verified among the 22 who picked nomination papers.
