Besigye maintains “COVID is Real” as he goes into Self-isolation

Col. Kizza Besigye

Uganda’s powerful opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye has gone into self-isolation.

It remains unknown whether he was exposed to coronavirus or tested positive for the virus.

Details on his health have remained a top secret within the FDC circles and also his family ranks as his close aide Ronald Muhinda remained reluctant to disclose facts when contacted on Sunday night.

Besigye’s known phone number was off when contacted.

The FDC heavyweight broke news on twitter on Sunday that he was self- isolating reason he couldn’t appear at the burial of former Kampala lord mayor Nasser Ssebaggala.

However, Dr Besigye couldn’t reveal more on his health.

“Fare thee well Al Hajj Nasser Ssebagala (Seya). Unfortunately, I’m in self-isolation and couldn’t personally participate in his send off. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with his family. Inna lillahi wa Inna illahi raj’un,” Besigye tweeted Sunday.

Besigye’s PA Muhinda when contacted advised us to engage his boss on Twitter.

“Engage him on Twitter to understand his situation. I cannot say anything about it. But on every address he has made on Saturday, he has said Covid19 is real,” said Muhinda.

The FDC administration is yet to speak about Besigye health.

Besigye has in the past held a couple of live social media sessions sensitizing Ugandans about the dangers of Coronavirus. In every podcast, he has maintained that “COVID-19 is real” urging Ugandans to adhere to guidelines issued by Ministry of Health.
