Makerere University top administrators led by the Vice Chancellor Barnabas Nawangwe have Thursday launched a campaign dubbed “we shall restore our icon” in a bid to rebuild the school’s main block which was burnt into ashes a few days ago.
This main building also known as Ivory Tower is symbolic in the history of Uganda having existed for 79 years.
The cause of inferno which destroyed this tower remains unknown as Police’s investigations are ongoing.
Critical academic and financial records were all burnt, however, the Vice Chancellor said they had been restored in a digital form.
On Thursday morning, Nawangwe unveiled the official contribution channels for support towards the restoration of Iconic Main Administration Building.
“Our Vice Chancellor and members of the University management addressing the press at the unveil of the financial collection platforms for funds towards the restoration of our iconic Main Administration Building- Ivory Tower,” the University tweeted.
