The Uganda Revenue Authority Commissioner General (CG) John Musinguzi Rujoki on Saturday donated a public address system to the National Leadership Institute (NALI), Kyankwanzi and vowed to bring to an end a cancer (corruption) that has eaten the fabric of tax body -URA.

Brigadier General David Kasura Kyomukama, the Director NALI was at hand to receive the donation under URA’s corporate Social Responsibility arm. The new equipment has the capacity to communicate to over 5,000 people.

The donation that includes sound speakers, presentation touch screens, microphones, and other electronic equipment was handed over to NALI by Commissioner General John Musinguzi Rujoki.

Handing over the generous donation, Rujoki said he was happy that the image of the tax body was improving. “We are working on a transformational structure that will deliver results”.

Stay focused

Over 250 freshly recruited URA officials are undergoing a 10 week leadership training course that will close on 01st October, 2020. Rujoki said the new additions to the URA team have been comprehensively trained to fit into the new URA structure.

The Commissioner General thanked the NALI team for inculcating patriotism to the URA officials adding that he will ensure that all the 2500 URA staff get similar training from NALI.

 Corruption in URA will end

Rujoki told the recruits that for the last two months, the tax body had been hitting their targets and overshooting it by over 30%. He advised the recruits to embrace honesty saying his door was always open to them to report any impediments standing in the way of delivering tax collection results.

“URA presently collects 13% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) while the continental coverage stands at 7%. We can confidently move to 26% easily if we curbed tax evasion and connivance,” Rujoki added.

URA has previously been in the news over corruption related scandals with the last episode involving the resignation of over 4 senior commissioners.

Remain patriotic and God fearing

Rujoki told the participants to stay humble and God-fearing. “I am one of those few people who is satisfied with the blessings God has bestowed on me. I will only take what is only due to me because of the respect of God and because it is good to stay clean,” Rujoki said.

NALI Director Brigadier General David Kasura Kyomukama thanked URA for the kind gesture adding that it takes only a foresighted leadership to give back.
