Rotary Club of Bukoto has launched the Fitness and Nutrition (FAN) Program as a club.
The Fitness and Nutrition (FAN) program is the vision of the District Governor, District 9211, Rosetti Nabbumba Nayenga. This program was officially launched by the Rotary District Governor on 4th July 2020 in Speke Resort Munyonyo. The FAN program is fully aligned to the of seven areas of focus of rotary which are ; Peace and conflict prevention/resolution, Disease prevention and treatment, Water and sanitation, Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, Economic and community development and Supporting the environment .
Launching this great and life changing program by the District Governor R.N Nabbumba and all Rotary clubs has built a lot of momentum and has given an opportunity for all Rotary clubs in the District (Uganda and Tanzania) to roll this special program in their clubs, workplaces, communities and homes. As such, many rotary clubs continues to launch this program and ensure all Rotary Clubs participate in mandatory workout and as well as eating healthy. This has further increased membership participation and publicity regarding health living and attracted more members to joining rotary.
The Rotary Club of Bukoto has been carrying out this program through sharing Fitness and Nutrition related messages on shared platforms, engaging speakers on the fitness and nutrition topics during their weekly meetings, participating in the virtual cancer run and sharing family moments( pictures and workout sessions), and healthy meals on the club what up groups , among others. The Club of Bukoto currently has 64 members who are grouped into 5 Buddy groups and every buddy group has a Fitness and Nutrition Representative who coordinate with the overall Club Fitness and Nutrition Officer to endure FAN is incorporated into the weekly programs .
In order to enhance this FAN Program, the Rotary District 9211 further carried out a baseline survey on individual fitness and nutrition practices and plans in order to improve the monitoring and evaluation of the same.
The Fitness and Nutrition campaign is aimed at reminding Rotarians, rotaractors, interactors and friends of rotary and the entire community that fitness and proper nutrition are key to health living. The FAN program is also in line with the Presidential campaigns on keeping fit and healthy in order to mitigate the risk of the Communicable diseases.
In addition, the Health benefits if the program, the FAN program brings more fun to rotary clubs, bonding. The program brings awareness on health issues closer to our homes moreover than before, which eventually attracts more members to joining rotary and /or participating in the rotary activities. By the end of this rotary year, it is expected that more individuals, families and communities will have built a culture of wellness, which message has also often been empathized by the President of the Republic of Uganda and the Ministry of Health.

The FAN program is proving to be a success, the way previous rotary programs have been embraced and are still being implemented, notably, the famous Rotary Cancer Run( an annual run that attracts millions around the world to continue with the fight again cancer), Rotary Family Health Days ( a bi-annual activities that provides free health clinics to communities), Rotary Vijana Poa( a program that promotes skilling and empowering the youth in our communities) and Rotary Mission Green( a campaign that to planting of millions of trees to save the environment) .
The FAN program therefore calls for members of the public to participate in talks and conversations on physical fitness and nutrition, real physical exercise sessions including but not limited to dance sessions, family walks , cycling , runs, sports , swimming , board games, comedy , happy moments, eating clean among others. For us to add value to ourselves and the people we serve, we need to be healthy physically, emotionally and mentally.
