The voters of West Budama North East were multiple times threatened by the NRM candidate Fox Odoi Oywelowo who addressed them with a gun.
Odoi was contesting in NRM primaries and faced stiff competition from Peter Denis Ogandi, a long serving cadre of NRM.
However, the election in West Budama North East was marred with chaos allegedly orchestrated by Mr Odoi who kept telling voters that he has long worked for President Yoweri Museveni and therefore can’t lose. That he would use all means to win the election.
Although he was declared winner by the NRM returning officer, Mr Ogandi Denis who become the second has since contested the result at the NRM secretariat while citing several election irregularities, voter bribery and intimidation. Ogandi says he has incriminating evidence including videos against Odoi.
This website understands that during campaigns, police and other security officials cautioned Fox Odoi against brandishing a gun while interacting with voters but their concerns fell on deaf ears of the flamboyant politician who further violated Ministry of Health COVID-19 guidelines by addressing mammoth gatherings.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has come out to condemn the violence that marred NRM polls orchestrated by the candidates.
On Saturday, he directed the IGP Okoth Ochola to provide gun manual use by October 15th.
This was in reference to the shootings of civilians during NRM primaries.
In his directive, Museveni says no one is allowed to carry a gun anywhere in Uganda on behalf of the State and engages with the public without knowing the procedures of using the weapon.
