The raging commercial litigation involving tycoon Hamis Kiggundu (applicant) and the defendant-DTB Bank has taken unprecedented twist as three employees volunteered to testify against the financial institution.
The three employees include; Tamale Richard, who formerly worked as the Legal Officer and currently the Officer Operations, IDB Department at Diamond Trust Bank Uganda.
Anati Namugga Kayita who served as the Manager Credit Administration.
The third witness is Shirley Asiimwe who served as Officer Credit Administration.
The bold move by these workers to pin their employer has left DTB rattled.
“The bank is panicky. It has resorted to media spin by initiating malicious stories how businessman Ham is likely to lose the case,” said a source at DTB.
Is what can be considered as blackmail, DTB has been using a section of the media to push a narrative that Mr Kiggundu is using the litigation as a ploy to buy more time and find a way of refunding money to the bank.
But a more resolute Ham, scoffed at these reports wondering if the spin the bank has resorted to will save the institution.
At the start of this year , Ham Enterprises owned by businessman Hamis Kiggundu took Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) to court for fraudulently, illegally and irregularly debiting over Ug Shs120Bn on his accounts without his knowledge and consent.
THREATS
Realising that DTB’s woes have deepened with its staff lining as witnesses, the Bank’s top administration has since issues threats to them.
Some are threatened to face dismissal whereas others have already lost their jobs but are equally being threatened to face criminal charges against them.
They have even started fearing for their lives because the bank unlawfully debited a lot of money t from the client’s accounts on “instruction from above” and they have come out to testify.
It is unfair of foreigners to threaten Ugandans for simply standing up for their Country Uganda, as the witnesses claim that it is really unfair and unjust of the banks to take Ugandans and Uganda at large for granted.
