Jovrine Kyomukama Kaliisa has been arrested and detained at Ibanda Police Station on Thursday evening for flouting COVID-19 guidelines, dishing out money and campaigning past deadline.
Kaliisa was picked from a rally which she staged at Demo Primary grounds in Kagongo Division in the municipality.
According to information obtained by this website, police accuses Kaliisa of addressing a rally past the required time (6pm) and also failing to observe the social distance among her supporters as directed by the Ministry of Health.
By the time of filing this report Kaliisa was still in police custody as her supporters protested the arrest.
TrumpetNews understands that, Kaliisa’s supporters plan to storm the police station if she isn’t released tonight.
Her detention comes hours to voting for the NRM primaries which kicks on Friday, September 4 at 8am.
Kaliisa has represented Ibanda as the woman MP and is seeking a reelection for the second time.
