With only three days left for the ruling party to hold internal elections for lawmakers, some candidates have employed tactics aiming at seeking voters’ sympathy.
A case in point is Ruhinda South contest in Mitooma District where one of the contenders Arthur Kazoora is accused of throwing a coffin into his compound and accused his opponents of witch-hunt.
Residents of Rwakikambuzi village in Nyakihita parish, Mutara Sub County were Monday gripped in shock after finding a coffin at Kazoora’s home surrounded by cash notes of shs.2000.
Kazoora is facing incumbent Capt. Donozio Mugaba Kahonda and a new kid on the block Didas Kaginda, the owner of Forbes Enterprises, a labour externalization firm based in Kiwatule, in Kampala.
Whereas Mr Kazoora and his strategists thought that such prank would sway the voters, it has since disgusted many constituents who wondered why a whole aspirant for parliament would stoop so low.
According to whatsapp messages intercepted by this website, some of the voters rubbished his act insisting that politics isn’t about life and death.
“Twagweerwa akagwe omwe ahabesimbi boweitu Nyakihita yashanga eshanduukye omumuhanda gurikuza owee. Abanya Mitooma murekye Tugume tuzanegye Politics,” a vernacular (Runyankore) text from a voter who denounced this act of immature politics.
The NRM primaries for Member of Parliaments across the country are hotly contested. Polling is slated for Friday, September 4 and voters will queue behind their candidates.
The method of lining up was adopted by the NRM top administration following 2015 violence that marred the same exercise.
