Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Asan Kasingye has been infected with Coronavirus.

The chief political commissar of Uganda Police Force confirmed the heartbreaking news on his Twitter account on Sunday afternoon.

“BAD NEW!! I’AM #COVID19 POSITIVE,” announced Mr Kasingye.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Health confirmed 318 new cases, the highest number of infections recorded in a day in Uganda.

The country has since registered 2,263 cases since the pandemic broke out and 20 deaths.

Asan Kasingye becomes the first Ugandan government official to officially announce his COVID-19 status publicly.
