Presidential aspirant Lt. Gen. (rtd) has strongly assured his supporters that he doesn’t need rocket science in Uganda to win an election but rather organizational capabilities.
The oratory former spy chief was Wednesday launching his pressure group “The Renewed Uganda” which he will use to contest for President in the coming election.
Addressing a sizeable gathering at the headquarters in Kololo amid wild cheers, Tumukunde explained why he chose to unveil the political movement on August 15, why the name ‘The Renewed Uganda’ and why Orange colour.
“I choose this day because it is very significant in the history of Uganda since it’s the Youth Day. Majority of the People in Uganda are the youth and they have been affected by what is happening,” Tumukunde said.
He added that he is one of those who believe that the NRM revolution has done something but veered off truck later and therefore, he will renew the country and thus the name Renewed Uganda.
He further said that the Orange colour was used by his political party People’s Liberation Party which he formed in 2005 before he was arrested.
He appealed to his supporters to entrench the grass root, mobilize and be organized. “That is where the votes are. The votes are not on the streets. They are with the ordinary people.”
As an intelligence officer, Tumukunde said he knows what it takes to win an election and therefore many people who think he has no support will be shocked.
It must be remembered that Tumukunde was pivotal in the 2016 election while he canvassed support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
