Col. Kizza Besigye who rarely insults those opposed to his ideology has in unprecedented turn of events likened four Ugandan intellectuals to the ruling party’s Bizonto.
The four are Andrew Mwenda, the owner of Independent Magazine which is deemed pro- Museveni, Tamale Mirundi the senior Presidential Advisor on media affairs, Ofwono Opondo the Director of Media Center and Patrick Wakida his former Personal Assistant and now Managing Director of Research World International (RWI).
Appearing on local television NTV on Thursday night discussing the 2021 General Elections, Besigye said Uganda has two sides; those with power and those seeking to free themselves.
He however, added that both sides have got Bizonto.
The Bizonto is a vernacular word (Luganda) which means imbecile.
And there is a group of 5 comedians in Uganda identifying themselves as Bizonto who became popular following their arrest a few days ago on charges of spreading sectarianism.
The comedians in a video clips that went viral on internet alleged that the powerful positions of government in Uganda are occupied by one tribe, the Banyankore.
Many Ugandans took to social media to condemn their arrest including Col Besigye who until today says these comedians are pro-people.
He told NTV moderator Patrick Kamara that the opposition has Bizonto (the comedians) while the NRM has also Bizonto to tout the regime.
He mentioned Mwenda, Mirundi, Opondo and Wakida as among the NRM’s bizonto.
Besigye would go ahead to say that the latest major opinion poll which placed him in the second position as a powerful leader was conducted by Bizonto.
The major public perception report launched on Wednesday suggested that Kizz Besigye has support of 17% while his fellow opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has 22% and their biggest opponent President Museveni scored 46%.
Besigye said those he mentioned above are part of the elite hired by the regime to push a narrative that the opposition in Uganda is weak to be able to extend President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s long rule.
The FDC founder has been equivocal that in his submission over time that the most useless people in Uganda are the elite who use social media to demonise his cause.
