Sectarian talk Spills over to NRM as Sanjay Tana demands Disciplinary action against Mukula

The NRM candidate for Vice Chairman Eastern Uganda Sanjay Tana has dragged his opponent Hon Mike Mukula to the party electoral commission accusing him of peddling sectarian utterances in a video that went viral on social media platforms.

The Election Taskforce coordinator of Tana, Dan Meshack Okware says Mukula’s remarks contravene the spirit and the party constitution.

Dear Sir;

RE: SECTARIAN UTTERANCES BY CANDIDATE HON. CAPT. MIKE MUKULA IN THE ON-GOING C.E.C CAMPAIGNS.

Greetings to you in the name and spirit of the National Resistance Movement (NRM). The Election Task Force of Candidate Hon. Sanjay Tanna has noted with concern the deliberate utterances of sectarian messages to the NRM Members by Candidate Mike Mukula during his various ongoing campaign meetings for the National Vice Chairperson Eastern Bid and evidence by way of video clips and radio talk shows the latest being Rock Mambo Radio in Tororo yesterday 3rd August 2020 trying to portray Hon. Sanjay Tanna as a foreigner and piling all forms of prejudicial innuendos against his person.

As you are aware; Chapter two 6(i) of the NRM Constitution provides that; The NRM is a National, broad based, inclusive, democratic, non-sectarian, multi-ideological, multi interest and progressive mass organization. In addition, section 21(2) of the National Constitution provides that; a person shall not be discriminated against on the ground of sex, race, colour, ethnic origin, tribe, birth, creed, religion, social of economic standing, political opinion or disability. This is further entrenched in the anti-Sectarianism Laws of Uganda.

We would wish to put to your attention that those utterances by the said Candidate Mike Mukula are not only contradictory to the core ideals, values and aspirations of the NRM but are also likely to dent the NRM Party established good image both nationally and internationally.

These utterances are also against the national constitution as provided for in Anti Sectarian the laws of Uganda because our candidate is citizen of Uganda has served government in various responsibilities including as Member of the 8th and 9th Parliament of the Republic of Uganda.

The purpose of this letter is to petition your office a. also express our protest and dissatisfaction in the conduct of Candidate Mike Mukula and invite your attention to section 15 (14) of the NRM Constitutional provisions on Discipline and Ethics and request that you cause disciplinary proceedings against the said Candidate Mike Mukula to act as a deterrent to him never to make such sectarian utterances not only during the on going C E C Members- campaigns but even in the future You will agree that these sectarian remarks are in violation of principles of both the National Constitution and the NRM Constitution.
