The Minister of Information Hon Judith Nabakooba who by virtue of her appointment is the official government spokesperson has lashed at opposition leaders who venture into sectarian talk saying Uganda could degenerate into anarchy over such tribal sentiments.
The Mityana District woman MP said the sectarian talk is cheap and uncalled for, instead the propagators of this toxic debate should tell Ugandans what they intend to do when they take over government.
The Minister questioned why narrative is popping up at a time the country is preparing to choose a set of new leaders in a general election.
“Why now? Should we put our energies on that yet people want services?” Nabakooba wondered while appearing on a local television NBS on Tuesday morning.
She reiterated: “The regional balance is there. Aren’t we in government?
Nabakooba reminded the nation that sectarianism can cause violence.
“Why are people saying it now? You mean they did not see it before? The way they talk is as if only these people fill the government. Are you not seeing us from other regions?”
She said Uganda has grown politically and those playing a tribal card should table alternatives and tell Ugandans what they intend to do when they take power rather than inciting violence.
Lately, a number of opposition leader have initiated a regional imbalance debate insisting that powerful government positions are occupied by only westerners.
This debate however, is referred to as cheap and rubbish by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
