Having done a stellar job at containing novel Coronavirus in Uganda, Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng has also decided to vie for political office.
The Minister will contest as Lira District Woman MP on the NRM ticket.
She made a declaration on Sunday afternoon at a news conference after wide consultations with the electorate and encouragement by members of the public.
The incurrent Lira Woman MP is Joy Atim Ongom who subscribes to Uganda People’s Congress (UPC). Lira is a stronghold of the UPC since the party founder Apollo Milton Obote hails from the district.
Aceng said her decision to contest for the Lira seat was formed by the decision to unseat UPC and to give the area better representation under the ruling party.
Aceng was previously the Director General of Health Services before being admitted to cabinet by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on the basis of her impeccable performance at the Ministry of Health.
