NEW DETAILS: PN Ankunda was Arrested with Police Officer Akandwanaho

PN Ankunda and his friend Akandwanaho are incarcerated.

Phillip Ankunda, a jailed UPDF pilot was arrested with Benon Akandwanaho a community liaison officer for Kiira Divison Police Station and another cop stationed in Kyotera District whose name remain unknown.

The trio is detained on allegations of spying for Rwanda, an accusations majority of the public and family have rubbished as an untrue.

This website on Monday broke a story how Ankunda popularly known as PN on social media has been held incommunicado by Military Intelligence over espionage.

In May, TrumpetNews had also exclusively reported about the arrest of Benon Akandwanaho who was picked by operatives of Military Intelligence. His arrest was linked to Rwanda.

However, no senior police official was willing to comment on Akandwanho’s arrest when contacted in May.

Similarly, the army publicist Brig. Richard Karemire declined to comment on PN’s incarceration when reached on Monday.

Pressed on, Brig. Karemire told this website that PN Ankunda is a suspect before ending our call.

But a top official in the military told us that Ankunda’s arrest is a “national security matter.”

Ankunda, was commissioned in March as UPDF Airforce Pilot at a rank of 2nd Lieutenant.

He had also been moved into SFC, a lethal unit of the army at a time of his arrest.

According to available information PN and his Rwandan girlfriend were placed on 24- hour surveillance before he was arrested.

TrumpetNews has also learnt that Akandwanaho was very close to PN and he several times met his Rwandan girlfriend.

What they would discuss remains unknown.

However, PN’s family dismissed espionage claims insisting their brother is being framed.

The suspects were held at CMI head offices in Mbuya before they were transferred to SID in Kireka in a military detention,

In custody they were separated to deter them from making coordinated statements.

While at SID Kireka, Ankunda and his colleagues have not been able to access legal services and have since asked the Military leadership to consider trying them in the Military Court if they have a case.
