President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has in the recent past vowed to deal with all corrupt government officials likening them to Parasites who should go to Hell. The President issued a stinging rebuke last Tuesday while addressing the nation on Heroes Day.
On Thursday, while delivering his budget day speech, the Head of State reiterated his earlier point that corruption will be dealt with citing the case of Uganda Revenue Authority where he said he was not happy with the tax collections saying powerful individuals were colluding with businessmen to help them evade taxes in exchange for money.
Now, news coming in from State House, according to well placed sources, the President has instructed all anti-graft agencies like, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Police’s CID Unit and others in ISO to ‘fully wrought out all corrupt officials’ dementing the work of the state.
Some of the ‘notoriously’ corrupt agencies that the President wants investigated include the Central Bank, Ministry of Finance, Planning & Economic Development, the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), the National Roads Authority (UNRA), the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and Ministry of Energy, Civil Aviation Authority, Uganda Free Zones Authority (UFZA), State House itself among others.
This has sent shivers down the spines of accounting officers in these agencies.
Our source revealed to us that from January to February President Museveni conducted a series of meetings with the technocrats of the said agencies at State House.
His intention was to assess the performance and he openly revealed to them that he was tired of corruption and would soon strike.
The President has in a couple of days fired top administrators of three agencies either directly or indirectly.
For example, in URA, he directed the new Commissioner General Rujooki Musinguzi to force three commissioners to resign.
Whereas they tendered in their resignations, Museveni would later reveal that “I cleaned that place.”
He also asked the Minister of Internal Affairs not to renew the contract of National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA) Executive Director saying the agency is surrounded by problems.
On Friday night he sacked Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) top management.
Our source said, we are yet to see more surprises from President Museveni.
