Uganda Prisons has Wednesday confirmed its first Coronavirus infection.
The news was revealed by the spokesperson of Uganda Prisons Services, Frank Baine while addressing a press conference in Kampala.
“I am here to inform the nation that on Monday, the suspect who was in isolation in our isolation center in Kawuti prison, Namutumba, eastern Uganda and by the close of business on Monday, results came and he was found positive,” said Baine.
By the time of testing, the patient was already in isolation was already taken into an isolation unit.
“Fortunately, he was in isolation and at the same time his people had secured his release from prison but because of what is going on, we were not able to hand him over to his relatives but to the ministry of Health and is being treated in Jinja,” he added
Uganda has recorded 665 cases, 119 recoveries and no deaths.
