The cabinet sitting at Entebbe State Lounge has resolved to allow public transport back into operational but with very stringent guidelines which President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will announce during his address moments later on Monday night.

Some government health officials had earlier suggested that due to the soaring Coronavirus community infections brought by Truck Drivers, public transport be further suspended since it attracts masses to gather which could spark off danger to the nation.

However, the Monday cabinet meeting advised that the public transport should be restricted to 50% of the passengers.

That means that taxis which entitled to 14 passengers will be allowed to carry only 7.

An official who attended the meeting speaking to this website on condition of anonymity since the President is slated to address the nation added that schools, bars and churches will not be opened anytime soon.

In his last address Museveni had suggested that public transport will be allowed on June 4 depending on the curve of the pandemic in Uganda. But from the time the President spoke to Uganda, over 250 new cases have since been confirmed by the Ministry of Health.

The new wave of the infection has seen 7 frontline health workers test positive and have been admitted at Entebbe Grade B and Mulago Hospital.

By press time, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was preparing his speech.
