Uganda Police is hunting a driver of a car registration number UAS 597U who knocked and injured a traffic officer in a horrific hit-and-run crash at Namanve road block in Mukono District.
Traffic officer PC no. 59242 Innocent Ayesigye was hit as he tried to stop a white Toyota RAV4 at 7:20pm on May 24.
“The Driver of motor vehicle Registration number UAS 597U, you knocked our Traffic Officer at Namanve along Kampala-Jinja highway and you refused to stop. Report yourself to the nearest Police Station. The accident happened yesterday at 1920 hours,” Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango tweeted on Monday.
Unfortunately, PC Ayesigye has Tuesday passed on while receiving treatment at Rubaga Hospital.
“Our Traffic Officer NO. 59242 PC AYESIGYE INNOCENT who was knocked by motor vehicle registration number UAS 597U RAV4 has passed on at Rubaga Hospital this morning. We are still looking for the Driver of car number UAS 597U,” Onyango further announced Tuesday.
As police mounts search for the driver, our further scrutiny of the car particulars from URA indicat that the car belongs to Charity Nuwagaba Rugyema, a resident of Kakanju, Bushenyi District who was born in 18/12/1981. The mobile number of the owner is 0771672274.
