Uganda Police has again warned private car owners against violating the 7pm curfew directive insisting that the violators will sleep behind bars.
According to government plans on easing the 2-months lockdown, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni allowed private cars on road beginning May 26, however he said the drivers must observe the curfew (7pm- 6:30am).
But some drivers have been complaining of delaying in traffic jam particularly in Kampala City and therefore unable to beat curfew.
But Police has warned; “Plan your journey early enough.”
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango told drivers that cops won’t listen to that excuse.
“Curfew: Plan your journey early enough. This is the time you should be thinking of leaving the city centre because of traffic jam. We shall not listen to any excuse of traffic jam. When it clocks 7 PM and it gets you in any of our check points, we shall lodge you until tomorrow,” Onyango tweeted.
Earlier, Fred Enanga the publicist, urged drivers that they shouldn’t forget that other Presidential guidelines are still valid.
Mr Enanga said all drivers in private cars must wear masks along with other two occupants.
Museveni advised that a car should carry only 3 people.
Enanga added that all the vehicles must observe curfew time and that whoever will be got past 7pm, the vehicle will be impounded and occupants arrested, taken to court and charged with disobeying the Presidential directive.
“Every private vehicle got on the road beyond curfew hours will be impounded, occupants arrested,” said Enanga.
