COVID-19 Effects; Local Ugandan Bakery Offers Well-Wishers Shareholding to Raise Capital

Big Loaf Bakery crowd funds to save jobs and keep the business running.

Big Loaf is a local Ugandan bakery located in Nakifuma, just 22km outside Uganda’s capital, Kampala. Previously working with very little challenges, the advent of the novel coronavirus that had the country locked-down meant that their bread supply and delivery processes were affected, sending the small business into limping mode.

With creative owners and an active board, the brewery has now decided to solicit money from the public in return for shareholding. The crowd funding campaign will also save the jobs of workers, while keeping the ailing business operational.

We reproduce the initial public share offer from Big Loaf Directors.

Hello Ugandans & the world at large.
Let’s make some history and while at it, let us take back some power.
Big Loaf is a food company located in Nakifuma, 22kms from Kampala on the road to Kayunga. We are your number 1 bread brand – as soon as you taste our loaves of course.
Like the rest of the world, COVID-19 hasn’t left us the same. We have been building our company conventionally for 1 year now, mainly out of savings from employment. We have grown from a small team of 3 people to 11 people and sales of 60,000 to above 1,000,000 per day, during our first year. Our approach is to never think conventionally. Growing away from the main towns has allowed us to make mistakes and learn from them, but more importantly, it has allowed us to improve our products daily. We think there is a way to give the customers more value and that’s why we have a 1.2kg loaf and a 625g loaf plus other products.
COVID-19 has had a negative effect on our growth since the lockdown was initiated. Our main markets were customers in trading centers away from the main towns and with no daily income, bread has become a luxury to many of them.
But as they say, tragedy is the mother of innovation and as such, we are now wearing our innovative hats. After this tragedy is conquered, and trust me it will be, we want to make Big Loaf even bigger. We want to serve even more people without going away from our values. We want to make more products and make no mistake; we shall continue to make better products.
How do we do this? We want your help. We are asking every well meaning Ugandan, and citizen of the world to contribute 10,000UGX to Big Loaf. We are inviting you to be a part of keeping fellow Ugandans employed as well as offer other Ugandans an opportunity to be hired.
This 10,000UGX contribution will not only help us keep the jobs of our current employees, but it will also offer BIG LOAF an OPPORTUNITY to grow and employ more people.
While the tragedy has led to many job LOSSES, we can be contributors to job CREATION. We will also be able to gain from economies of scale, and hence give our customers better products at better prices.
How to contribute: Send mobile Money to 0781 633378 or Account number STANBIC BANK 90300115957785 Mama’s Big Loaf Bakery Limited.
The best way to get lots of people employed is through opening big factories.
To manage this stage of our company growth a board of directors (with reputable men and women) will be instituted to help guide our process of growth.
Every contribution will make you a honoree shareholder and as well as entitle you to a care package from Big Loaf in the year 2020, to say Thank you for keeping people employed and getting others hired.
I am available to talk more with you about this dream.
