The Minister of Health has Tuesday announced four more new case of COVID-19 confirmed from 1478 samples of truck drivers.
This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases to 126 in Uganda.
The new cases, the ministry says are 2 Ugandans, 1 Kenyan truck drivers who arrived through Elegu and one Tanzanian who arrived in Mutukula border.
The ministry says all the 1478 samples tested were truck drivers.
As cargo drivers entering continue posing a threat to Uganda, last Saturday, the management of the Uganda Railways Corporation advised importers, particularly ones dealing in fuel to use trains so as to reduce the number of cargo truck drivers entering the country.
Engineer Charles Kateeba, the managing director Uganda Railways Corporation, railway transport is convenient, a suggestion that President Yoweri Museveni also hinted on while in an interview with NBS TV that aired on Monday evening.
Mr. Kateeba explained that majority of the fuel trucks entering the country belong to individual importers who buy fuel from the new fuel Jetty in Kisumu operated by the Kenya Pipeline Company which pumps fuel from Mombasa to Kisumu.
He said rather than sending individual trucks, the fuel can be loaded onto the Uganda Railways tanks to move Railway and Ships to the national fuel reserves in Jinja and a private one under construction in Kawuku along Entebbe road where they can pick it from.
