Uganda is set to go back to work following 35- days of shutdown, astringent measure implemented by the President to curb the spread of Coronavirus.
However, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will issue new measures since there are still pocket infections existing in the population.
Among the new guidelines, it will be compulsory wearing face masks to prevent people from contacting breathe, saliva, mucus and other body liquids.
President Museveni hinted on the issue of masks on Friday while addressing the Ugandans as the nation commemorates labour day.
Museveni said that whereas reports have suggested Uganda’s economy will literally collapse, there is hope that it will take a huge success turn because government is planning to lessen imports and concentrate on local production.
He outlined sectors which will be supported massively like food production, production of medicine, making of clothes and among others.
He said he is touch with Nytil Textile Factory in Jinja to produce millions of masks which people will wear as the lockdown is lifted.
“Soon these masks will be needed,” Museveni said in relation to the easing of the shutdown.
He said next week, he will address the nation as far COVID-19 is concerned.
On speculations that some sectors like Tourism will shut for good, Museveni said, these are weather sectors and they will gradually flourish since Uganda is looked at in the whole world as one of the few countries that are much safer.
Uganda has not registered any COVID-19 related deaths. It has recorded 83 infections and so far 52 patients have fully recovered.
