Political activist and International Affairs Secretary for Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) Barbara Allimadi succumbed to pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs) on Monday night at her home.
Allimadi’s tragic death was reported by ANT’s official Alice Alaso who said she had been found dead in her Kiwatule house.
Police later issued a statement saying her death was being investigated.
On Wednesday, Milton Allimadi who is based in America said the autopsy report indicated his sister died of blood clot.
Milton further said Allimadi will be buried Saturday and only 10 people will be allowed to send her off due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Below is a full statement.
The Allimadi family sends thanks to all of Barbara’s friends and colleagues and family friends for the overwhelming outpouring of love and support during this period of mourning following the untimely death our beloved sister in Kampala on Monday night, April 27, 2020. A preliminary autopsy report showed a pulmonary embolism (blood clots in the lungs).
We are humbled by the display of affection from people from all walks of life from all over the world, especially the youth.
We assure you that your kind words and love have helped ease the pain.
We in particular want to thank Mugisha Muntu, Bobi Wine, Dr. Kizza Besigye, Norbert Mao, David Mpanga, and Dr. Margaret Nyeko Okello for thé special support they have quietly given to the family following Barbara’s demise. We thank Barbara’s political party, The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), for its invaluable support and for offering to cover the burial cost.
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown, the private funeral scheduled this Saturday in Gulu will be limited to no more than 10 people, thus making it impossible to share Barbara’s homegoing with many of the people who love her.
Once the lockdown ends, the family will announce a date for a fitting send off to our fearless Princess, Barbara, who dedicated her life to the struggle to create a just Uganda where everyone is treated equally.
In lieu of flowers, anyone who wishes to make a contribution in honor of Barbara may do so via our cousin, Dr. Margaret Nyeko Okello (via smartmoney +256.772.406.273).
We thank you all for your prayers and love! May we all continue Barbara’s struggle for a just society.
