Details: Jinja RDC Remanded to Prison over Manslaughter, Theft of Beer and Eggs

Jinja High Court has Friday evening remanded the ‘untouchable’ District RDC Eric Sakwa Joseph to Kirinya Prison on charges of manslaughter and theft.

Sakwa who was arrested following dramatic scenes in Jinja Town as he hid inside a radio station was later pulled out by operatives from from State House Anti- Corruption Unit which is headed by Col. Edith Nakalema.

He was immediately arraigned in Court and sent on remand until May 13 when he reappears.

Particulars of Offence

Prosecution alleges that between March 17 and March 22, Sakwa and others still at large caused the death of a citizen Charles Isanga a resident of Lwanda Village in Jinja.

Relatives of Charles Isanga who is said to have died two weeks after he was allegedly tortured by Jinja Resident District Commissioner, Eric Sakwa had refused to bury the body until the government intervenes.

The postmortem report indicated that the deceased died of hemorrhage in the vessels.

Further prosecution claims that Sakwa and others still at large on March 22 at Lwanda village stole cash amounting to shs 80000, three crates of beer, eight trays of eggs, soda, water and sachets of waragi all valued at 429000 UGX.

Earlier reports indicated that Sakwa had been arrested on claims of torturing a People Power supporter Pastor Andrew Muwanguzi after the two clashed on a radio talk show.

Sakwa drew a gun on Muwanguzi and threatened to blow his brain.

Many locals have been decrying torture and harassment subjected to them by the President’s representative Eric Sakwa.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni recently warned all government officials and security personnel against beating, torturing or mistreating civilians. He deployed Col Nakalema to handle whoever raises a finger on any Ugandan in this COVID-19 crisis while implementing government measures.
