Kizza Besigye, Uganda’s opposition leader who was banned from stepping foot in Jinja District by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Eric Joseph Sakwa has Friday had the last laugh.
Sakwa, who clearly accumulated enmity while serving government was however, arraigned before High Court on accusations of manslaughter and robbery.
Court heard that while commanding a ruthless gang, Sakwa and many at large caused the death of a businessman Charles Isanga a resident of Lwanda village in Jinja between March 17 and 22.
The same people robbed goods belonging to the deceased on March 22.
Sakwa has been remanded until May 13.
The news was welcomed with cheers and wild celebrations by the people of Jinja because Sakwa had stepped on many toes in his regime.
From torture to persecution and brandishing a gun threatening to blow citizen’s brains.
Among none Jinja residents who welcomed Sakwa’s news with great joy is the son of Kifefe, Col Besigye who was banished from Jinja by the jailbird in February.
Two months ago, Sakwa labeled former FDC president ‘persona non grata’ in his area after police arrested the four time presidential hopeful.
Dr Besigye was due to meet traders and leaders of the Kazimingi market was detained at the infamous Nalufenya Police Station.
Sakwa said Besigye is not welcome anymore in Jinja because his presence in the Eastern Ugandan district usually sparks riots.
“Although we want visitors, Besigye is no longer welcome. He causes chaos and mobilizes boda boda men to riot,” Sakwa, publicly banned Besigye.
Taking to Twitter on Friday, Besigye posted from archives media reports which quoted Sakwa banning him from his area and the opposition kingpin captions as thus:
“Jinja erupts in celebration after RDC Eric Sakwa is arrested, charged in court & sent to jail!
Overzealous & brutal in enforcing his “master’s will” NOT serving Ugandans as by law established.
Reminds me of very many before him, some on the run, in jail or dead! Time comes…”
