Questioning COVID-19 Recoveries on Twitter landed NBS’s Kasumba in Jail

Kasumba is in Police cell at Kira Road.

NBS TV journalist and anchor Samson Kasumba, was Tuesday night arrested and detained at Kira Road Police Station.

According to NilePost, Kasumba was arrested shortly after reading the Live at 9 news bulletin with Sheila Nduhukire outside the NBS TV offices as he headed home.

The NBS management remains unaware about the the charges their employee faces.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango when contacted said he will address the press later at Media Center.

But a source in security revealed to this website that Kasumba was arrested following his critical social media posts on government related to Coronavirus.

“His posts completely undermined government and our efforts to fight COVID. These people like Kasumba forget that they are TV personalities that have a following. And anything they saw has an impact on the public,” said a source.

In one of Kasumba’s latest tweets he sarcastically questions the method/treatment used in healing the COVID-19 patients as he wonders if Uganda and Ministry of Health could become a world’s consultant.

“Uganda’s recovery #COVID19 cases have now surpassed its active cases.

@JaneRuth_Aceng, @DianaAtwine are we not the first in the world to do this? We may end up an international consultation destination on managing outbreaks and pandemics,” Sam Kasumba tweet reads.

NilePost reported that Kasumba is likely to be charged with sedition.

By press time Police had taken Kasumba to home for search.
