Fiery Speaker of Parliament has sternly warned ‘errant’ legislators and a section of members of the public against talking about shs 10 billion COVID-19 facilitation which Parliament secretly awarded to itself.
Rebecca Kadaga on Thursday said it is not anyone’s business to query the extension of funds by the Parliamentary Commission to MPs.
She said only the commission and her office know what role that money will play for Parliament’s COVID-19 oversight work.
“The issue of Sh10b is an issue of the parliamentary commission, so members stop talking about it because you don’t know about it. Allow the speaker and the commission to speak on your behalf. It is not your business, just go on with your lives,” Kadaga told the MPs during the plenary session on Thursday afternoon
During the consideration of the Sh304b supplementary budget for COVID-19, Parliament allocated itself Sh10b after budget cuts from different sectors such as the ministry of health and security among others.
The Sh10b allocation to parliament has since attracted public criticism attacking parliament for being greedy.
However, some MPs have since distanced themselves from the money saying they have not received a single penny which according to parliament is meant for oversight work of MPs on COVID-19.
On Wednesday, Kadaga justified the allocation the Sh10b COVID-19 funds to the parliamentary commission saying it was for oversight work by the different Parliamentary COVID-19 task forces established by the parliamentary commission, to oversee works on COVID-19 Pandemic in Uganda.
