Uganda has Tuesday registered a new case of Coronavirus after a cargo transporter tested positive.
According to information from Ministry of Health, the patient is a 38-year-old male transporter who arrived from Kenya via Malaba border on April 12, 2020
This new case brings the total number of infections to 55, however, eight patients were discharged after recovering fully.
The cargo transporter is among the 625 samples tested at Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) in which 372 are all cargo transporters entering Uganda.
Similar a Kenyan National aged 27 who tested positive for the virus has been returned to a Kenya.
Ministry of Health Spokesman Emmanuel Ainenyona said arrangements had been made to reunite him with his Kenyan family for treatment.
The development comes after President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni extended a lockdown for more 21 days in Uganda saying the focus will be on cargo transporters entering Uganda.
