OPM PS, Guwatudde, Arrested for Inflating Prices of COVID-19 Relief Food

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s aide Col. Edith Nakalema has arrested of four senior officials in the Office of the Prime Minister who inflated prices of COVID-19 food procurement.

The arrested include Permanent Secretary Christine Guwatudde Kintu, Commissioner, Disaster Preparedness and Management Martin Owor, Joel Wanjara and Fred Lutimba.

Nakelema who heads the State House Anti-Corruption Unit was recently activated by the President to monitor all security agencies and the COVID-19 Taskforce.

Museveni ordered Nakalema to arrest any security official found misbehaving or engaging in an form of corruption during the lockdown.

The COVID-19 Taskforce is headed by Prime Minister Rt. Hon Ruhakana Rugunda who is charge of receiving donations and also procuring relief food for the vulnerable Ugandans.

Nakalema said some suppliers had offered lower prices to supply government food .

The suppliers are mostly from Operation Wealth Creation.

“However, Accounting officers in OPM rejected lower prices and instead took on high prices, some of whom their capacity is doubted,” she said.

Subsequently, she has immediately arrested these unscrupulous government officials and handed them over to Police- Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The Prime Minister on Wednesday while in presence of the President assured the nation that their donations are in safe hands and would reach the destination.
