Businessman Abid Alam arrested

Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema has arrested Abid Alam, a renowned businessman over violence and torture subjected to Mityana residents by his employees.

On Wednesday, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit headed by Nakalema directed Abid Alam to record a statement at Kasanda Police Station.

Nakalema’s aides told this website on Thursday that Mr Abid was being looked for questioning.

“We want him to record a statement, but this could turn into an arrest,” said an official in the unit who asked not to be mentioned.

Don Wanyama, the spokesperson of the unit was yet to confirm the arrest.

But this website learnt that Abid had been in Nakalema’s custody at her office in Kampala.

Late last week, a group of over 50 people suspected to be Abid Alam’s employees attacked homes and farm at Bukompe village cutting down all the plantations and demolishing houses.

In the resulting melee some people were badly beaten and injured by the attackers believed to be the businessman’s employees.

However, this website has learnt that Nakalema has since summoned the businessman to record a statement over the actions of his employees.

“I have directed that Abid Alam goes to police to record a statement on why his workers attackers Bukompe village in Kassanda village and destroyed property,” Nakalema said on Wednesday.
