Brigadier Abel Kandiho Promoted to Major General

The Commander in Chief Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has promoted Abel Kandiho, the head of Military Intelligence to Major General.

He was serving at a rank of Brigadier.

The President further approved the promotion of 11 other officers to rank of Major General while 12 officers were elevated to the rank of Brigadier.

Five officers were promoted to the rank of Colonel.

The promotions were approved on recommendation of the Commissions Board.

UPDF/defence spokesperson Brig. Richard Karemire confirmed the promotions.

Kandiho has been at the helm of daily military operations aimed at dismantling opponents aimed at destabilizing Uganda.

Other promoted include Brigadier Ddiba Ssentongo, Deputy Managing Director, National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), the business arm of UPDF, to the rank of Major General.

Other senior officers promoted to the rank of Major General include Hudson Mukasa who is the Defence attache to Kenya; Lucky Kidega, Defence attaché to Somalia; Innocent Oula, UPDF MP and head of Civil Military Cooperation; Geoffrey Katsigazi, the deputy deputy commander of the UPDF Airforce; Jack Bakasumba, the Joint Chief of Staff Uganda Police and Charles Okidi, Chief of Staff, Airforce and George Igumba, Chief of personnel and administration among others

Karemire said some of the officers are “due for retirement” while other promotions were meant to be aligned with the officers’ seniority and training courses they have attended.

24 officers were promoted to the rank of Brigadier.

These include Rebecca Mpagi, the director of Personnel and Administration at the Airforce.
