The top management of Selfworth initiative has spoken out on a directive issued by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to close the NGO as demanded by Rwanda government.
Prossy Bonabana, the CEO of this organization speaking to this website on Monday evening acknowledged receipt of the letter which carries Museveni’s message in which he suggested that the NGO should tone down on its advocacy in relation to Rwandan aggression.
Ms Bonabana insists she is s victim of President Paul Kagame’s external aggression extended to Ugandan citizens and other refugees who sought sanctuary in Uganda.
Her husband Gendarme Rwema, a Banyamulenge Cultural leader was kidnapped in 2015 in Uganda and he remains languishing in Kigali prison.
In a bid to have a uniting voice she started up Selfworth Initiative which brings together all victims.
The mission of this organization is to seek justice.
Her efforts however, are hitting a dead wall with Uganda seeking to restore diplomatic relations with Rwanda.
Kagame and his government resolved to close Katuna border denying Uganda goods access into Rwanda.
The two countries have been holding talks to repair their ties.
And one condition set by Rwanda was to close Selfworth and prosecute its leaders as they are supporting a rebel group RNC, which intends to oust Mr Kagame.
Media reports suggested that Museveni has since ordered closure of Selfworth Initiative.
Bonabana said, “we were not ordered to close. We were asked to reduce on advocacy and concentrate on development programs.”
Sulah Nuwamanya wondered whether closing the organization would guarantee victims of Rwandan aggression justice.
But he insisted that the NGO respects the President of Uganda would therefore abide by his guidance.
