Minister says Locusts have Returned to Kenya by Wind and Remaining ones Should be Eaten

The Minister of Karamoja Affairs Hon John Byabagambi has assured the media that a huge swarm of locusts which had entered Uganda a few days ago has since returned to Kenya through Lupa in Northen Uganda.

Byabagambi who is also the Ibanda South Constituency representative was responding to reports that the locusts were not as many as the government estimated.

“The locusts were taken by wind through Lupa to Kenya where they came from,” he told the media.

Earlier the same politician had suggested that Ugandans should eat these insects since they make a good delicacy as a measure of fighting them.

He expressed no fear whatsoever that these locusts are a threat.

But research indicates that the locusts can eat 100 tons of vegetation in a day.

Information from Ministry of Agriculture however, indicates that a big swarm from Kenya invaded Uganda on Wednesday, and Thursday, officials at the Ministry shared pictures of people spraying the deadly indicates in the jungles of Karamoja.
