State Minister for Agriculture Hon Henry Aggrey Bagiire has Tuesday been airlifted to locust infested areas of Karamoja, bringing to end doubt that the desert locust story is a myth.

Some opposition political leaders swarmed radio talk shows in Kampala to dispel the locusts’ talk as a machination by government officials to eat money allocated to combat the crisis.

Government had earmarked shs 25 billion to fight these insects.

Yesterday government confirmed, that these deadly pests had invaded six districts of Northern Uganda which include; Moroto, Amudat, Nabilatuk, Nakapiripit, Napak and Abim.

Agriculture Ministry, Office of the Prime Minister and UPDF had joined efforts on Monday to fight these locusts whose stay could result into monstrous famine.

The UPDF announced a deployment of 2000 troops to back other government officials who are fighting the insects.

However, a section of politicians hadn’t believed that the locusts are truly existing.

Many challenged authorities to show evidence of locusts in Karamoja areas.

A video recording by UBC obtained by TrumpetNews shows footage of Minister Bagiire aboard a UPDF copter landing in Karamoja bushes and descending to where these insects are.

They are yellow in colour. According to Bagiire that is a sign that they are ready to lay eggs and are less destructive.

“After 10-14 days, they will die and you will see the young one. Those ones are dangerous. They can eat anything that is green,” he said.
