Locusts Spread to 6 Districts in Northern Uganda

A Kenyan fighting with locusts.

The fast-moving desert locusts have Monday spread to six districts of Karamoja, officials in government have confirmed in a latest update about the invasion of these deadly insects.

The affected districts include Moroto, Amudat, Nabilatuk, Nakapiripit, Napak and Abim

On Monday afternoon reports indicated that a huge swarm from Kenya entered Uganda from Turkana side.

“Also another big swarm that was reported 3kms inside Kenya at 1.00pm is now at the Amudat border,” says Martin Owor, the Commissioner Disaster Preparedness and management in the Office of the Prime Minister

On Monday morning, two UPDF choppers airlifted spray equipment and chemicals to Moroto.

UPDF also dispatched 2000 soldiers to fight these insects.

Spray aircrafts will likely arrive in Karamoja tomorrow and two international experts will join Ugandan counterparts same day.
