The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development received numerous complaints against Middle East Consultants regarding failure to place candidates who had paid placement.

Upon investigating and verifying the claims the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development pursuant to Regulation 10(21) of the Employment (Recruitment of Uganda Migrant Workers Abroad’ Regulations, 2005, suspended the recruitment license No. 1907619 belonging to Middle East Consultants Limited on 10th January 2020.

Subsequently, the Ministry facilitated negotiations between Middle East Consultants and the complainants and on 21st January 2020.

A Memorandum of Understanding witnessed by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development was entered into between Middle East Consultants and the complainants.

In the memorandum of Understanding, Middle East Consultants agreed to pay each complainant 50 % of the refund amount by RTGs on 21st, January 2020.

The balance would be paid by cheques.

On 22nd January 2020. Middle East Consultants availed the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development proof of payment of claims for verification.

Based on the above and taking into account the fact that some of the complainants opted to take up job opportunities secured by Middle Eosl Consultants:

The Ministry lifted the suspension to allow complainants travel for work abroad.

Middle East Consultants has also been sternly warned that any breach of the law would entitle the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development to invoke Its powers under The Employment ‘Recruitment of Uganda Migrant Workers Abroad Regulations, 2005 to revoke the license of Middle East Consultants.
