The Ruling Party Secretary General Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba has asked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for protection after the delegates heckled her bringing the conference to a standstill.
The National Delegates Conference sitting at Namboole Stadium on Saturday’s is the party’s highest profile organ convened to legitimize the decisions made by National Council and Central Executive Committee.
However, the incensed members expressed discomfort when Lumumba took to the podium to make her speech.
The crowds protested by shouting, booing and heckling Lumumba. The President restored sanity by inviting two members from each tent to the VIP section to explain to him why the NRM members are furious with the secretary general.
She would then be allowed to proceed with her speech in which she introduced foreign dignitaries who graced the occasion.
Some of them include; Cigden Karaaslan, AKP Vice President (Turkey), Rt. Hon. Raphael Tuju. Secretary General of Jubilee (Kenya), Cde Jemme Nuhu Kumba, Presidential Envoy (South Sudan), Dr. Sadala Abdalla Juma, Deputy Secretary General of CCM (Tanzania), H.E Mr. Antonio Luis Pubillones Izaguirre, Ambasaddor of the Repunlic of Cuba to Uganda representing the Communist Party, Amb. Bukhari Gganim Mohamed Afadi (Republic of Sudan) and H.E Amb. Ri Hung Guk. Representing the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea.
