Former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi didn’t turn up for just concluded NRM National Executive Council (NEC) Conference held on Friday at State House Lounge.
Article 12(2)P of the NRM Constitution gives the National Chairman- who is the President- the right to invite not more than 5 individuals who have made special contributions to the struggle to attend the NEC meeting.
Earlier, the Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba confirmed receipt of the names from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The five include former Vice Presidents Dr. Specioza Wandira Kazibwe and Dr. Gilbert Bukenya, former Prime Ministers Rt. Hon. Kintu Musoke and Rt. Hon Amama Mbabazi together with former Kampala Central Legislator Hon Francis Babu.
“We shall be grateful to receive them as our special guests during NEC meeting,” she said.
But among the five invited guests Ms Kazibwe and Mr Babu only showed up at Entebbe.
The party has Saturday convened a Delegates Conference at Namboole Stadium to legitimise the decisions of NEC which among others include endorsing Museveni as a sole candidate for upcoming Presidential elections.
It remains unknown why Mbabazi didn’t honour Museveni’s invite since the two have been seen in public twice in the recent past triggering speculation that the Ex Premier could be returning to government.
Mbabazi until 2015 when he broke ranks was a close confidant of Museveni as as the two worked together since 1970s.
At some point the whole nation perceived Mbabazi as the next President.
